What is CBD?
CBD, known as Cannabidiol, is derived from the Cannabis plant which produces both hemp and/or marijuana. Hemp and marijuana, both offspring of the cannabis plant, have many similar characteristics, yet many different characteristics. Hemp known for containing less than .3% Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) produces a non-psychoactive effect (no “high”) yet contains many benefits with minimal side effects making this a popular choice. Marijuana which has higher levels of THC than Hemp can produce an intoxicating effect and have medicinal value.
Every human body has an Endocannabinoid System (ECS) which interacts with multiple systems within the body including the central nervous system, the immune system and the digestive system. The ECS systems helps promote homeostasis and balance within the body. Cannabinoid receptors known as CB1 (found in the brain and affect movement, sleep, pain, appetite, anxiety, addiction, nausea, movement, learning, coordination) and CB2 (immune system, peripheral nervous system, various organs, gastrointestinal tract, inflammation) which make up the ECS. The body naturally produces cannabinoids to interact with various receptors including CB1 and CB2.
